The Lost Princess

Prologue

"Mama! Papa!" little eleven-year-old Lucy cried. "where are you? I'm scared!" she cried, tears streaming down her face.

She watched in horror as her palace and hometown burned to the ground, and as people fell left and right, their blood staining the earth.

She had been running with her older brother, younger sister, and parents through the castle, loyal servants helping them to escape, but cruelly cut down after them for delaying their pursuers.
The knights came from Igshid, Hargeon, and Hecay. Three neighboring kingdoms who didn't agree with The king that ruled over them and decided to overthrow the Salancia kingdom.

Lucy had already watched her 15-year-old brother David get crushed by a book shelve and a burning plank. She was now surrounded by a burning wall of fire, holding her dear sister, Macy, age seven, close, and a dagger in her hand her brother had slipped her.

"Run Lucy! As far and as fast as you can! protect your sister no matter what. The VanHalen’s name must live on! within you! when the time comes you'll do what's right! you'll correct the things I couldn't! Now go!" Jude VanHalen, the proud king, yelled to his daughters.

"No daddy! I'm scared! I need you! We're a family." Lucy said, tears falling, but keeping her composure the best she could. Macy was wailing.

Then they heard a bloodcurdling scream and they knew, their dear mother, the queen, had passed on.
"GO!!" Jude shouted fiercely and finally the girls picked up their feet and started running, their long, stunning and tailored dresses occasionally tripping them up.

They ran all they could, up and down staircases, halls, in and out of rooms, doubling back when they got trapped, hiding when they heard an enemy. They ran till their lungs were on fire and they could run no more, but still, somehow, kept running.

Somewhere along the way a servant stopped them. His name was Sigmund, He was big, strong, and had a lot of his face covered because he had gotten into a battle when he was a knight for the family.
"Please misses. You must go through the secret tunnels and hurry! Your best chance is if you split up!"

"I will not leave Macy!" Lucy shouted furiously. How could he even think of such a thing?

"I will take Macy and protect her, but believe me, this is your best chance you have to go!"

Reluctantly Lucy let him pick up Macy. Sigmund went into one secret passage while Lucy went into the other.

She still didn't see the point of splitting her and her sister up, but if it kept her safe, then she wasn't asking questions. The passage was all stone and dimly lit, even pitch black at some points.

When she finally exited the tunnel the moon was orange and the sky was full of smoke. She bounded into the forest and she didn't make it far in when she heard a scream off to her left. It was undoubtedly her sister.

Lucy ran in the direction of the scream and as she approached, noticed a light flickering so she slowed down and crept silently closer. She peered around a tree at the clearing where the other passage should have let out. Her sister and their faithful servant Sigmund were surrounded.
They started questioning Sigmund, and then they started arguing and swords were drawn. Simon cut down three men, but a fourth Pierced him through the back and he fell.

Lucy watched in horror as her sister coward in fear, her face matching her own. Macy hugged her stuffed bunny rabbit closer, whimpering and begging them not to hurt her.

"I'm sorry, but the Vanhalen’s have ruined this land with their lies, poisoned the minds of others. Not one can be allowed to live!" the soldier raised his sword, and with one mighty stab, sent it through the little girl. Macy screamed, then dropped, blood soaking her clothes.

Lucy watched her sister die and was taken aback. A gasp escaped her lips and she stepped back, snapping a twig.... drawing the remaining attention of the guards.

"THE ELDEST DAUGHTER! GET HER! SHE MAY NOT LIVE!"

Lucy turned and sprinted, tears rolling down her face and blurring her vision. She tripped over a root and landed on top of a bush. She heard knights shouting and coming closer. Lucy wriggled her body until she was under the bush and hidden from view. She quieted her sobs and held her breath, begging and praying to all she knew that she wouldn't be found. Her father’s words echoed on her mind 'you must live on.'

It felt like hours had gone by to the little girl as guards came back and forth. But each was as oblivious as the last of the little girl hidden in the little berry bush.

As the commotion died down and night grew into dawn, little Lucy climbed from her hiding spot. She picked a few berries, as she recognized them as safe from the old text books she studied from.
And then, even though she was exhausted beyond belief, she ran. She ran hard and fast, and had no idea where she was running to. Three days and two nights she spent in the woods, with no food or water and running the whole time, hoping she would get lucky.

And on the third night, she did.

She found a building, or rather ran into it. It was a house, no rather, a barn. Lucy happily ran inside and filled around. It smelled bad and it was pitch black. She felt a bunch of straw and decided to sleep there for the night, it was a lot warmer than where she had been sleeping the previous nights.
She just hoped she would get a moment of piece and safety, and she finally let it all sink in.

She was all alone.

What is your story?

I’ve always hated labels. I never understood the point of them or cliques. If we want to be different who says we can’t be? Who says we can’t be more than one thing? What if I want to be a jock but I’m also a nerd? What if some days I want to wear sweat pants and a hoodie and other days I want to wear a dress and curl my hair? Maybe I just want to be someone completely different.

Why Is it so hard for some people to wrap their heads around it? Yes, I don’t particularly enjoy dressing up or using make-up, but why do people find it so weird when I do? I Just wish that for once someone wouldn’t say “Wow! You actually look like a girl today!” What, did I not before? I want to be seen for me, every part of me. I am not limited to one being, I am not limited to one apparition you have created for me in your mind. I play basketball, volleyball and softball. I’m not as fit as other girls but I’m still perfect in my own way. I love to watch anime and get straight A’s and I sometimes even like school. I wear glasses and I wear contacts. I’m friends with the populars and I’m friends with the nerds. I don’t care who you are or what you look like but I believe that you deserve all my attention. Some days I listen to punk rock, others I listen to pop and some days I listen to scream.

My limit is my imagination, I don’t allow anyone to tell me what I can and can’t do. I hate being normal, but other days I just want to fit in. I want to be seen for who I really am not what they want me to be. I won’t allow myself to be defined by the current trends or my grades or anything else. I’ll allow my actions to speak for themselves and I’ll allow my choices to shape who I am. I dare to be myself and I won’t let anyone tell me differently.
Self portrait

Self-portrait with true feelings, blue and red and gold
With laughter, with life, with new experiences
With books and learning and music,
With happiness with sadness with joy

Self-portrait with long days, relaxing thoughts, sports
And all things me.
With risk, with believing, with thinking and
Everything in between

Self-portrait with no formalities, with craziness,
With stressing out
With being scared, confident and confused
All at once

Self-portrait with bravery, with power
With weakness and self-doubt.
With a cup of coffee and a good book

With friends and family and values.
Perfection Embodies Mind

“Have no fear of perfection, you’ll never reach it.” – Salvador Dali

She reaches for the next tree branch, doing only what her friends dared her to do to impress them. She was terrified, she hated heights, but she wanted to fit in. She wanted to be like the cool kids and be fearless. She made her feet move, the soles of her shoes gripping the branches beneath her. Her hands hurt, surely there would be blisters on them later but it wouldn’t matter if her friends thought she was cool. Her friends encouraged her, telling her to go higher and higher which only gave her more energy and confidence. She stepped onto the next branch but she heard a crack, and suddenly, she was falling and falling till she hit the ground with a thud. It hurt and she wanted to cry. Had it been worth it?

Ghost Story

Everything is different. It has been this way ever since I woke up on the other side. I speak different, I act different and I walk different, in fact I don’t walk at all, I drift, or float some would call it. I guess the nice thing about it is I can finally go through walls without running into them and hurting myself, although I still sometimes get stuck. I guess you might have already guessed it, but I’m a ghost. Some of you might be weirded out, others think it’s totally cool and some scream in panic and horror. Don’t worry, I’m not that kind of ghost. I’m friendly, like Casper, but not really. . . I have my tricks, and I love messing with people. I make things fall on the floor every now and then so you are constantly picking up. I may yell a single “HA!” as I’m trying to contain my laughter. I may jiggle the door handle while you are trying to go to the restroom. I will hide your favorite shirt that I know you are looking for and then, when you aren’t looking, I’ll hang it in the most obvious place so when you see it you’ll think you’re crazy. Every day I’ll move a few objects slightly to the right so when you walk in you feel like something is off but you can’t quite put your finger on it. Some days I’ll even go as far as rearranging your furniture so that when you walk in you think you are in the wrong house. It’s always so funny! You may hear me laughing in the middle of the night, but only because my friend Casper is over and telling me a funny joke. Now tricks aren’t all I’m good for, I can be helpful too, like sometimes cleaning the apartment when you are away or writing inspirational messages on your mirror while it’s all fogged up, just a little thank you for tolerating me and keeping me as your roommate. Take it from me, being a ghost isn’t all that bad, If I had known what it would be like on the other side, I would have died a long time ago!

Today was a snow day, so at least we had late start but I was still one of the unlucky souls to actually come to school today.
I wrote this for the assignment in creative writing today and I kind of liked how it turned out. So. . . yay I guess and that is why I'm putting it here.

Imitation Metaphor poem
You are the fish in the pond,
The red dress and high heels
        -McHailee Danner

Quote: When it rains look for rainbows and when it is dark look for stars.

You are the fish in the pond,
The red dress and high heels.
You are the wind whistling through the air
And the trees that sway to its call.
You are the pure white snow on the trees
And the shimmering icicles that cascade down the branches.

However, you are not the sturdy bridge,
The sun setting over the ocean
Or the kiss in the rain.
You are not the flowers wilting in the vase
Or the lavender scented bath.
Definitely not the lavender scented bath.

It is possible that you are a mouse in it’s whole,
Or maybe the hawk awaiting a command,
But you are not, in any way
The stiffness of black and white.

Look closely and you will see,
That you are neither the golden boots,
Or the imagination of someone else.

In contrast, I am the waves rocking the boat
And the moon illuminating the night.
I am a calm morning sky,
And a thundering winter storm.

I am also the tree branches breaking,
The birds chirping you awake,
And the lemon scented air.

I happen to be the blind man’s cane,
And the shepherd’s dog.
But I am not the fish in the pond.
You are still the fish in the pond.
You will forever be the fish in pond,

As well as the red dress and- amazingly- the high heels.

Prompt:  The Journey by Mary Oliver

My heart swayed, caught between doing the right and doing the wrong. How was I supposed to choose when doing the right also seemed wrong and doing the wrong also felt right? What am I to do? The voices in my head won't stop shouting and nothing that they say is helpful. The longer I sit here in silence, the more my world collapses. I stood up, feeling the house shake, the wind pulling at it's foundation with a whine. I knew it now, I knew what I had to do. I had to save the only life I could save. I strode forward, things pulling at my ankles, begging me to stay. It was a sea of barriers that were next to impossible to get through. Right after left, I forced my feet to keep moving and I finally broke free of my imprisonment. I ran as hard and as fast as my body permitted, the world around me slowly falling away. If I didn't make it in time I would be swallowed away with this world and I, too, would be non-existent. The landscape was gray and barren, the trees were black and dead, scorched beyond recognition. Dry, ugly leaves crunched underneath my feet and there was no sun. Everything appeared colorless, the only thing vibrant were my red converse sneakers. This world was destroyed beyond repair, my home obliterated by the selfishness it harbored. I would have to start a new, it had to be done. I lost everything but I couldn't turn back now, what I knew was gone and there was nothing I could do about it. The crusted earth under my feet crumbled and it was hard to keep my footing; I didn't know if I would make it.
I am the rain

I am the rain, pitter, pattering on a window. Some like me, other's don't care for me, many sing for me to go away. Some like to sing and dance as the rain falls on their faces and splash in the puddles that I have created. Others turn away, avoiding the outside and grumble while locking their doors tight so that I can't come in.
Hey there,

So, I've never had a blog before so I thought I would write a little something here to say something about myself.

I don't know how good I am, or who will read this, but thing about being a writer is that you don't necessarily have to be good, you just need to have a passion for writing and let the words write themselves.

I feel like this blog is going to be a lot of me expressing myself but I also want to write things that are enjoyable to you, the reader.

There will be many things, like all sorts of poems, random short stories about prompts I have received or little excerpts from books I have been working on. I do a lot to just goof around, but I'm excited to produce something that someone might like.

Don't mind my randomness,

I set my foot down onto the next bored, careful not to scrape my barefoot against the wood. I followed the steps until my feet reached the sand. I looked out at the ocean, beckoning me to join it's waters. The waters were calm, softly crashing against the shore; it was too early for the beach to be disrupted. I let the morning wind sift through my hair and dress. I threw out my arms and let myself feel free, if, for a only a few moments. The sun peaked over the ocean like a reverse sunset, sending a bright yellow, pink, blue color shimmering against what appeared to be glass reflecting the world. I enjoyed this moment, it was what I craved before having to go back to that seemingly endless road we call life.
                 I am a leaf
I am a leaf, fallen from the tree, separated from others. I signify the end of summer and the beginning of fall. I become brown and crumpled and dead. I am crunched under the boots of people walking by, dissatisfied by the seasons change. More leafs get fall and I get buried, suffocated. I get raked up into a pile where I am used for entertainment. Children land and I disperse, floating, falling, into somewhere new, just to start the whole process over again.
Until one day, someone picks me up, admiring my colors,
And deems me beautiful.
Text Message poems

Sleeping
My head rests on a pillow
       Fluffy, white and comfy
My bones relax and sink into the bed
As I pull the blanket over my head
I shut my eyes and float on a cloud of bliss

Secrets
       Secrets are all around
       Just floating in the air
       Buzzing in our ears
       And tangled in our hair
The things we keep to ourselves
And the others we choose to share
       Harm or save others
       Thinking without care

Autumn
My favorite time of the year
When leaves fall and change color
When the weather isn't too hot or too cold
       Autumn

I
I sit in silence
pondering my thoughts
I am alone and I hate the feeling
I want to change but the others won't let me

II
I still sit in silence
my thoughts overcrowding my mind
I'm still alone but I'm used to the feeling
I want to change, but it's okay if I don't
the other's wont care

III
The silence is now my best friend
My thoughts are being taken over
Loneliness is my cloak, my feelings don't matter
There's no longer change, that's how it is
The others ignore me

IV
My silence is interrupted
My thoughts are becoming few
Someone has taken my cloak and changed my feelings
I'm starting to change and it's scary
The others notice

V
There is no longer silence
My thoughts are different
I am not alone and I love the feeling
I have changed and the others beckon me
